Intro to Yoga Asana (Postures) for Beginners

Yoga Asanas are unique postures that have the power to enhance physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. As a yoga practitioner’s intelligence of asana builds over time with mindful and consistent practice, they can experience many benefits including:

  • Improved posture and balance as the spine’s natural curves are restored

  • Reduced physical tension and pain, as muscular strength, length, and symmetry is enhanced in the muscles that support the spine

  • A calmer, less anxious mind that comes with slowing down, paying attention, and letting go of expectations

  • A more positive outlook, increased creativity, and feelings of wellbeing that come with the release of feel-good endorphins

  • Improved immunity, cardiovascular health, digestion, and metabolism as new, healthier patterns are established in the physical body and nervous system

This special session will focus on the basics of alignment and physical techniques of several foundational standing postures. You’ll learn the basics of set-up and activation of the feet, legs, hips, and shoulders. Props will be used throughout the class to help you feel the physical work and benefits of each posture, plus create a sense of muscle memory that supports advancement of skills and knowledge over time. This class is open to those brand new to yoga asana, as well as those who wish to deepen their knowledge of technique and alignment points.
