When our inner thighs are tight, it's difficult to do seated yoga postures comfortably. Tight inner thighs lift the knees, take us off of our sit bones, and cause rounding in the lumbar spine. This can lead to low back strain and eventually compromised spinal discs. Watch to see how sitting on a blanket (or a few) can help.
When the upper trapezius muscles are tight, they pull the shoulder blades towards the back of the skull, and the back of the skull towards the blades. When lying down, this causes the cervical spine to over-arch, and the chin to lift higher than the forehead. To protect this vulnerable area, and the blood fow and nerves that innervate it, use a yoga blanket or two under the back of the head. This will help keep the natural curves of the cervical spine.
