Cultivating a Gratitude Practice
Gratitude can help release stress, boost your mood, and enhance relationships. It has been studied, and is linked to many health benefits like better sleep and decreased blood pressure. When we incorporate it into our lives as a regular practice, it can lead to more joyful living and a positive outlook. Whether you’re new to or want to rekindle a gratitude practice, this special holiday session will get your started.
The hour will begin with calming yoga postures and breathwork to elicit a sense of inner peace and calm (no experience necessary). The physical practice will be followed by a few playful creative activities designed to help you positively connect with yourself, others, and the world around you through the practice of gratitude.
All props and materials are provided, and you'll be surrounded by the upbeat and enthusiastic energy of the community at Pierpont Racquet Club.

Yoga to Soothe Feelings of Fear & Anxiety
Brene Brown writes that anxiety and fear are “Places we go when things are uncertain or too much.”
Fear and anxiety unleash adrenaline in the body and kick off a series of harmful physical and mental effects. Both can tighten muscles, raise blood pressure, upset our tummies, keep us up at night, and drain our energy.
This session will help you learn some physical and mental techniques you can use to help lessen the consequences fear and anxiety have on your physical and mental health.

Stretch Relief for a Tight Neck, Shoulders, and Wrists
When we’re athletic, and use our arms overhead to play tennis, swim, & surf, the upper traps and other muscles of the shoulders are working hard to support movement. Too much tension can lead to pain and strain in the neck, shoulders, and wrists, as all of the tissues are connected. This session will teach you a series of stretches you can use to help release the gripping, move better, and get a more restful night’s sleep. Intro to Yoga Asana (Postures) for Beginners
Yoga Asanas are unique postures that have the power to enhance physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. As a yoga practitioner’s intelligence of asana builds over time with mindful and consistent practice, they can experience many benefits including:
Improved posture and balance as the spine’s natural curves are restored
Reduced physical tension and pain, as muscular strength, length, and symmetry is enhanced in the muscles that support the spine
A calmer, less anxious mind that comes with slowing down, paying attention, and letting go of expectations
A more positive outlook, increased creativity, and feelings of wellbeing that come with the release of feel-good endorphins
Improved immunity, cardiovascular health, digestion, and metabolism as new, healthier patterns are established in the physical body and nervous system
This special session will focus on the basics of alignment and physical techniques of several foundational standing postures. You’ll learn the basics of set-up and activation of the feet, legs, hips, and shoulders. Props will be used throughout the class to help you feel the physical work and benefits of each posture, plus create a sense of muscle memory that supports advancement of skills and knowledge over time. This class is open to those brand new to yoga asana, as well as those who wish to deepen their knowledge of technique and alignment points.

Into to Mindfulness Meditation

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or put thousands of miles on your feet each year, you’re vulnerable to injuries, pain, and strain. The repetitive steps we take demand a lot of the feet, ankles, legs, knees, and hips. Even the low back, shoulders, and neck may feel the effects of tightness, muscular imbalances, and postural patterns in the areas below them.
The good news is, yoga can be used therapeutically to both prevent injuries and heal them more quickly. When you understand your areas of vulnerability and how to effectively stretch and strengthen them, you can keep yourself feeling good and doing what you love, forever!

Functional Movement & Fascia Release for Tennis Players
Tennis demands a lot of our shoulders, feet, hips, and knees. It can leave us feeling tight and sore, but when we learn how to use movement to improve mobility and stretches to reduce tension, we can feel great on and off the court. Monthly Yoga Nidra Meditation & Fascia Release Stretch Session
April’s Full Moon will happen Saturday evening of this week, and will be a Supermoon… meaning it can appear larger and brighter than normal. The full moon in April is called the Pink Moon, as it corresponds with the early springtime blooms of a certain wildflower native to North America. This Yoga Nidra is designed to help you sleep better the days leading up to the full moon, as the bright light can cause sleep disturbances for us as humans as well as the animals around us. This deeply relaxing session will help you dissolve tension from the body and mind so you can drop into a deep night’s sleep. It Includes 30 minutes of passive stretches to release physical tension followed by a guided Yoga Nidra meditation.
